Steelhead Fly Fishing 2019

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 39 -  2019

It does not always have to be a steelhead

Unfortunately, I can not be there this year, but I'm looking forward to the reports of my friends. Sometimes fishing on Steelhead is very tough, but there are ways to dodge.

The Salzach in September

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 37 -  2019

Only good nerves help

Normally, September is a rather quiet month when it comes to the weather. But it can also be different. Heavy rain can make a river unfishable, in the Alps, the rain in the higher regions remains as snow. Shortly thereafter, the temperature increases again and the snow thaws. As a result, the river can´t be used for a longer time. In this situation only good nerves help and time, before you put yourself in danger!

View of Vancouver during approach

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 36 -  2019

Approach to Vancouver
A perfect picture of Vancouver for the lighting conditions
Very often I have already experienced the approach to Vancouver, such an opportunity as in this year to take pictures is pretty rare. So direct on the west coast you have always to expect rain or heavy cloud formation.

The Wiesent River and the Weather

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 35 -  2019

Like last year, our waters are suffering from water scarcity.

The Wiesent in Franconia is in the lower part still reasonably fine. Opposite to that situation, smaller waters are already lacking in water. Especially the upper parts are strongly affected. It's time for the government to think about the future, preferably before it's too late.

Back Home, the memories will stay

Here at Dawson City, the Yukon is already a very big river
On the right is Dawson City, in the middle you can see the ferry

In Whitehorse the Yukon is still a relatively small river. Here, at Dawson City, many large rivers have already drained into the Yukon, such as the Stewart River, the Pelly River to name the largest. Rivers like the Pelly, which are almost exclusively fed by glaciers, ensure a visible cloudiness of the yukon over the whole summer.

...and then, all of a sudden, the day has come...

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 33 -  2019

Better you will not fall into the water in this area...

The Yukon is full of natural beauty. This canyon landscape is just a few miles from Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. For swimming, this water is not suitable, the current is incredibly strong. Those who fall in there will only survive with a lot of luck. The massive number of warning signs speaks for itself.

Electrofishing on the Wiesent

Weekly picture at Fabisch Fly Fishing, Week 16 -  2019

Electrofishing with pros on the Wiesent
Of course, there is also a bit of curiosity, but actually such an stocktaking will help to control the stocking better the next few years. However, electricfishing should not be repeated too often.
